I want to type

Posted in Uncategorized on October 26, 2010 by catchapirate

My old computer failed me epically so my parents were very nice and got me a new computer!  Love you mom and dad.  I got this awesome new keyboard to and just really wanted to type on it.  It makes awesome clicking sounds.  I have a bio test tomorrow bleh I really don’t want to study for it but will anyways and I have to go turn in two more maps for my geography class…fun stuff.  Fun stuff is used in a sarcastic manner and a real one.  The coloring that is required is very soothing but it takes up a lot of time.  I really like typing…thank you keyboarding!

Cell phones…a wonderful thing but they have become the center of many things.  I try not to go anywhere without my cell phone.  I can call family in case of emergencies, stay in touch with friends outside of school, and they simply keep us entertained.   The article I read has some really good cell phone etiquette rules,  I think one should be is don’t spam other people’s phones.  The other part of the article was just simply ridiculous talking about radiation from cell phones.  There are somethings that experts say that are completely true and others that are completely stupid.

Cell phones are not dangerous when it comes to radiation.  Radio waves, which includes cell phones, have the lowest frequency below visible light, x-rays, and gamma-rays which have the highest frequency.  They are not going to do any damage.  Not a single person has died of radiation from a cell phone.  They have a list of lowest radiation and highest.  The highest amount is probably very insignificant and won’t do any damage.

There are so many scientists that say all of this crap and get people all worked up over nothing.   I am seriously bugged by that.  My dad had cancer before I was born and therefore he tried radiation.  Many cancer patients use this treatment to kill cancerous cells, it may make them feel sick but it generally helps.  If straight radiation is not going to kill a human who is going to get treatment there is almost no chance they will die from the effects of a cell phone.   Common sense, it is a useful tool, in fact my old blog title was that, so get a clue.

The Children of Cyberspace: Old Fogies by Their 20s

As we grow up the technological world grows with us.  Things are way different now then they were when I was six.  What does this mean for the next generation?  The answer is that kids will start out their life with more advanced technology, literally a child of tech world. In this article it talks about the author’s 2 year old daughter thinking the Kindle is her “Daddy’s book”.  What does this mean for the real books?

The world is constantly changing. In the future will all the books be gone?  There is actually an author that writes about this exact situation, the book is called Fahrenheit451.  The main character is a fireman and his job is to set books on fire, how ironic in comparison to what we think of as a fireman now.  The society progressed and the government deemed that books were not acceptable anymore.  I think that books will be forever, you can read a book on a Kindle or whatever system but it doesn’t compare to holding a book in your hands.

The article also mentions small generation gaps.  There are huge gaps between kids 4 years younger or older than me.  I am probably more tech savvy than the older ones but can’t hold a candle to those that are younger than me.  As a persons goes farther up in age or farther down the gap grows.  I was not reading an electronic book at two years old.  I only started using computers when I was 6 and 7 for educational games.  Now kids that are 6 and 7 search the web and travel all around on the computer.

Technology advances.  We learn how to progress and then set out the new findings into to the market to make a profit.  It is the way the world has always been.  We started with bows and arrows along with swords and progressed to guns of all sorts.  Maybe the next step is and Iron Man suit.  The future has all sorts of surprises in store and we are just along for the ride.

2. I can think of 10 instances of pandemonium.

3. Ir: not      re: again     voc: call   able: can  can not call again

Response to States’ Rights

Posted in Uncategorized on May 10, 2010 by catchapirate

CONOR:                                I’d like to point out that that WAS true, but not anymore, if states got to have more control over their state then we wouldn’t have sectionalism issues. Its because when the feds make a law that affects everyone in different ways that theirs a problem, they make a bill that “one size fits all” and thats not the case. It’s the people that make the union and so they should have a say in it, its not government to the people, its government by and for the people.

PIRATE:                              That is the whole reason we elect officials. Our government is SUPPOSED to be where we elect the people who have our best interests at heart to represent us. The whole reason we adopted a representative form of government is so that the people have a say in what is going on. You are absolutely right the government is supposed to be by and for the people. Over the years elections have gotten dirtier and the government has been warped. The federal government is SUPPOSED to keep us together, that wasn’t supposed to change. Maybe the reason there is sectionalism is because of the “one size fits all” isn’t what we need. The challenge now is making laws that does help the majority of the PEOPLE. Adjustments do need to be, politics is just one big game now.

Disclaimer: Not late I was sick.

1 Egocentric, demagogue, incisive, diatribe, disputatious

2  The freedom of religion, speech, press.  Our basic rights should always be protected and never taken away.  I personally don’t know which principles we should re-examine.

3.  Egocentric means a person believes they are the center of everything and the meaning relates to the roots.  Ego means I and centric means center.  Androgynous means having characteristics of both males and females and the meaning also relates to the roots.  Andro means man, gyn means women, and ous means full of.

4. Students should have more freedom than we do…especially at my school.  We get an office referral for everything if we are a second late to class, to the office even though you are allowed to have two tardies and only then do you get a detention ONLY. I think that the administration should still be able to set down what we are to learn…wait that is the state.  They should be able to set down the rules of the district but that means they need to make sure the rules are followed and not based strictly on the school.  I think students should be allowed to make mistakes for a vital learning experience but the severity of the crime also plays a factor.

5.  I ran up to them and screamed your a looser in their face.

6. I am annoyed greatly by people who are egocentric.  I am also annoyed by people who are pugnacious and generally walk away or I attack back (not physically).  Again I am annoyed by loquacious people but generally tune them out because I have friends who are very loquacious.

7.  No, not all music is euphonic.  Playing a piano for example, musicians put in seconds even though they sound horrible.  It is possible to create great music that is partially or totally cacophonous.  Art doesn’t always have to be considered pleasing in the mind to be great.

Internet has become very essential to the people of the world.  Yes there are some parts of the world that are suffering greatly and do not have this luxury but the highly developed do understand this.  We email each other, chat on Facebook, play online games, listen to music, AIM, just about everything.  Then of course there is the crucial work that we must do for school and jobs.  I don’t know what I would do without my computer.  Information is at the tip of my fingers at all times just a few finger strokes and I’ve got what I need.

My school work involves a lot of computer time.  Each week I have assignments that I must do on this blog, which is the whole reason I created it. Social Studies projects that I have to get a good grade on also frequently come up.  Finally there are those occasions when your teacher didn’t explain anything and you need some online help to figure out what to do. It is a fact now that to get a good education computers are often required.  We can’t stop the spike in technology and why would we?

As the years progress children are becoming more acquainted with technology.  My years as a small child weren’t spent with a massive amounts of tech time.  I had the Jump Start series and Chess Mates on a dinosaur of a computer, but that was about it. Now 2 and 3 years old play apps on their parents iTouches.  I am very familiar with computers now that I am a teenager, but I can scarcely imagine what kids only 3 or 4 years younger than me can do with a computer when they are my age. Technology will keep advancing and humans will keep adapting.

1.  What are the negative effects of the lack of high speed Internet on the Fields household?  What would the family have to give up to get access?  Is the trade off worth it to them? Explain.

The mom is the webmaster for a college, therefor with such a slow Internet she can’t do any of her tasks at home.  The slow connection also effects her kids.  The Internet has become essential to get school work done now.  The family wouldn’t necessarily give up anything it is rather scraping the money together to pay for a dish.  They might have to cut back on t.v. or less essential things but the trade off is probably worth it.  Life is made more difficult if you can’t easily get online.

5. “the idea is to teach kids why they need the Internet.”  Do kids need help with this?

Kids do not need help seeing why they need the Internet.  As kids grow up and the schools require you to do research or even answer questions on a blog it becomes very evident the need.  Middle school was probably the time I really saw the need.  I played games on the computer before that but as the school work increased I needed the computer even more.  It is natural to learn this in our technology based world.  Kids do not need help to learn the use of their computers.

Advantages would be that their wouldn’t be a big complicated system, arguments could be settled easier, and you know everyone in power. Disadvantages are that the few could ban together to have complete rule, they might not always have the citizens interests at heart, and easier to overthrow.

Examples of confluence: religion, concerts, school, protests, meetings, work, parties, athletic games.

Intractable means stubborn because it comes from the word intractabilis meaning “not to be handled,” (dictionary.com) which led to be slightly twisted into stubborn as our language advanced.

It is a little of both.  He is showing kindness by giving him a job that even he can do but it is also wrong because he is being payed well for it.

The emotions would be happy, friendly, kind, and fun.

I would make come up with an idea and let my artistic friend do the laying out.  We would have to pin it down so it doesn’t blow because of the wind.
